Census Day: 21st March
Charlwood Parish Council
2021 is a Census year – the first digital census in our history will take place on Sunday 21st March.
It’s important that every household participates in the census which comes round every 10 years and gathers essential information that is then used for things that affect the lives of every single person living in England and Wales.
Public bodies use census information to help plan and fund services that shape local communities such as housing, schools, doctors’ surgeries and bicycle lanes. Many charities and businesses also use it to inform their work. You may have used the data yourself.
Everyone needs to complete the census and be assured that your information is protected by law. That means government officials dealing with payments or services you receive cannot see it.
This will be the first census run predominantly online, with households receiving a letter with a unique access code, allowing them to complete the questionnaire on their computers, phones or tablets. For those who would rather fill out a paper questionnaire they will also be available and additional help provided.
More information is available at www.census.gov.uk, where there’s a wide range of support services available, and by clicking here.
Temporary employment positions are available to work on the census – to become part of the team go to www.censusjobs.co.uk or contact Paul Fenton, the Census community engagement manager for East Surrey, at paul.fenton22@field.census.gov.uk.
Local organisations which work with those in the community who may need additional help can also contact Paul on that email address or by going to census.gov.uk.
